Shinde's Research Recognized by MapBiomas

Nilesh Shinde, resource economics, is the co-author of a recent paper published in PNAS, "Collective Property Rights Lead to Secondary Forest Growth in the Brazilian Amazon." The paper, which explores how collective property rights provide a policy solution that merges human rights, conservation, and successful forest restoration, has received the second-place MapBiomas Award in the 2023 General Category.
The MapBiomas Award encourages applications and works that use data from any MapBiomas initiative, module, or product. This year, 163 entries from seven countries vied for the awards given in the categories General, Youth, Featured Applications in Public Policy and Business, Applications in Schools, and Actions to Combat Deforestation.
