Rossini Shares Expertise on Public Interest Technology

Carolina Rossini, Professor of Practice in the School of Public Policy and Director of the Public Interest Technology Initiative, has been featured extensively in international media coverage of Meta’s $17 billion settlement with U.S. states over alleged harms to teens on Facebook and Instagram. Rossini wrote an article for The Conversation examining how changes to the platforms are a key part of the settlement, which other outlets later republished. In the article, she comments that "True accountability requires the underlying product mechanics—such as addictive algorithms, infinite scroll, and push notifications—to be actively redesigned, independently verified, and legally enforced. Without those structural changes, a financial payout is dismissed merely as "marketing" or a superficial fix." 

She also contributed editorials in Portuguese to Brazil’s JOTA and Folha de São Paulo, one of the country’s largest newspapers, and an upcoming interview on Valor Econômico, Brazil's largest newspaper focused on economy and finance, on the imposition of tariffs by the USA on Brazil due to Brazil's efforts on social media regulation.
