Economics alum Srettha Thavisin was recently elected by the Thai parliament to be the 30th Prime Minister of Thailand. An ex-CEO and real estate developer who recently entered politics, Srettha seeks to raise the minimum wage and has stated, "The various problems that come with economic disparity and social inequality should be discussed with empathy and understanding."
The election comes on the heels of a contested race for the leadership role. A newcomer to Thai politics, Srettha will need to hold together an alliance of 11 parties, including two parties that led a coup in 2014. "I will try my best and work tirelessly to improve the quality of life for Thai people," says Srettha.
