Regional planners address physical, economic, and social problems that towns, cities, and regions face. In the Master of Regional Planning (MRP) program at UMass Amherst, you will engage in both the intellectual and professional aspects of devising large-scale solutions for the betterment of towns, cities, and larger regions. 

The MRP offers a broad education in the field and the classroom, covering areas such as the underlying theories in planning, urban form, urbanization, elements of the planning and decision-making processes, policy analysis and implementation, social planning, information technology, and planning tools and techniques. The program emphasizes real-world projects and the valuable experience of receiving guidance and feedback on your work from experienced professors.

Our program is also fully accredited by the Planning Accreditation Board (PAB) in cooperation with the American Planning Association, which allows our graduates a speedy path to American Institute of Certified Planners eligibility and enhanced career earning potential and job market competitiveness.
