After 35 years with the Department of Journalism, Professor Karen List is retiring. Her students and colleagues reflect on her time at the University. 

Oriol Pi-Sunyer, 93, of Amherst, a founding member and Professor Emeritus of the Department of Anthropology, died April 12, 2023, after a long illness.

Charles Schweik, School of Public Policy and Department of Environmental Conservation, has been named director of the UMass Amherst IT Program. 

On April 4, approximately 200 new U.S. citizens were naturalized at a ceremony hosted by UMass Amherst and the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

David Cort, Don Tomaskovic-Devey, and Laurel Smith-Doerr, sociology, have been named editors of the American Sociological Review.

We regret to announce that Martin "Marty" Norden, a communication professor of over 45 years, has passed away after a recent illness.

James Robert Crotty, professor emeritus in Economics, died on January 9, 2023 while being treated for complications related to Parkinson's Disease. 

Dean Alfange, Jr., professor emeritus Political Science, died on January 1, 2023, following a long illness.
