In the sustainable community development major at UMass Amherst, you can explore a variety of perspectives on creating a more sustainable world through planning and design.
Your core classes will prepare you to understand the dynamics of neighborhoods, cities, and landscapes and to engage communities in envisioning a more socially and environmentally balanced world.
You can also choose from four concentration options (or design your own) to tailor your degree to your professional goals:

Graduates from the sustainable community development program will be prepared to pursue a professional degree in fields related to environmental design and regional planning, or to begin a career with a lasting impact on the social, built, and natural built environments.
