Marta Vicarelli's research focuses on the risks and the socioeconomic impacts of climate variability and climate change; the economics of disaster risk-reduction based on the use of ecosystems; the economics of sustainable architecture, energy-efficient infrastructure, and green urbanism; and renewable energy.

She is contributing author to the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report, Working Group II, on impacts, adaptation, and vulnerability. She has held research fellowships at the National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA) Goddard Institute for Space Studies (2004-10), Harvard University’s Center for International Development  (2009-11), and Yale University’s Climate and Energy Institute (2011-13). She is also visiting professor at Sciences Po. Paris.

Vicarelli holds a PhD in sustainable development from Columbia University.
