Student Spotlight: Liam Yanulis
Liam Yanulis is a rising senior double majoring in astronomy and physics. His curiosity for what lies beyond our atmosphere began early in life, but his deeper academic involvement with the subject is fairly recent.
Liam started his college career at Georgetown University studying Linguistics. After attending a talk from a NASA astrophysicist, his passion for astronomy was renewed and he decided to transfer to UMass to study astrophysics.
Liam enjoys how involved he can be with the astronomy department at UMass, especially with research. He is working on X-ray astronomy research of obscured active galactic nuclei and is also a co-president of the Five Colleges Astronomy Club!
In 2021, Liam had an internship with NASA as a 3D animation intern. There, he was able to create infographics and accurate animations of the Orion spacecraft! After his internship, Liam was invited to witness a dress rehearsal of the Artemis I launch in Cape Canaveral Florida.
