If you’re a professional or graduate student who wants to build new skills and knowledge in the field of uncrewed aerial systems (UAS or “drone”), UMass Amherst now offers a professional certificate in the area.

Through the certificate program, you’ll learn how to pilot and operate unoccupied aerial systems safely and responsibly, and to produce aerial imagery useful for your field of interest. Applicable fields include construction, architecture, engineering, environmental management, wildlife management, agriculture, and public sector management.

The curriculum is available both online and in person at UMass Amherst and the Mount Ida campus in Newton, Massachusetts. You’ll take courses in FAA piloting license preparation, UAS piloting, safety management, and applications. Your work will prepare you to sit for the initial aeronautical knowledge test, unmanned aircraft general—small (UAG), which is required for FAA remote pilot certification.
