What is a Flex Classroom?

Flex Classrooms are classrooms equipped with UMass Flex technologies (e.g., recording cameras, projectors, microphones…) that have been designed to be easy to use, accommodate hybrid teaching strategies, and to provide immersive learning experiences for students in-person and online.

How to Teach in a Flex Classroom Guide

Available Equipment in Flex Classrooms

Each room follows a standard configuration. Some rooms may have additional equipment available, such as a document camera. If you have questions about the available equipment in a specific room please contact Classroom Technology Services (CTS) 413-545-5768 or @email

Touchscreen Controller

The touchscreen controller will display content, act as a digital whiteboard that allows you to draw and annotate, and allow you to control and monitor your Zoom meeting.

The touchscreen controller is either on a computer at the front of the room, or built into the DTEN television at the front of the classroom.

Projector

The projector displays your shared content to the class and mirrors the touchscreen.

Side Monitor

If you do not have any remote participants in your course, the side monitor will display any shared content. If you do have remote participants, the side monitor is dedicated to displaying your online students, which helps provide a classroom-like experience and allows students to interact with one another.

Switching Inputs

If your room has additional inputs, such as a document camera feed, you can switch between them by selecting the feed on the AV controller.
