Multimedia TechnoLegacy/AnalogWake on Dec. 8 to Explore Death and What Comes Next

A transdisciplinary, multimedia event “TechnoLegacy/AnalogWake: A Death Teach-In and Skillshare” will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8. The hybrid event, organized through a fellowship with the Public Interest Technology Initiative and featuring faculty from the Department of Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies, will provide participants with a chance to explore a topic all too often avoided: death and what comes next.

The learning space will feature artmaking, storytelling and guest lectures from Tamara Kneese, author of “Death Glitch: How Technosolutionism Fails Us in This Life and Beyond,” and poet, UMass alum and end-of-life navigator Dina Stander, who will speak to death care and community.

“TechnoLegacy/AnalogWake” will also feature a “Telephone of the Wind,” and a collaborative community shroud art project. A Telephone of the Wind is a unconnected rotary phone that gives grieving people the chance to say a final goodbye to a loved one and receive closure.

The event—a collaboration between UMass Amherst faculty in nursing, art and women, gender, sexuality studies—will be held in the Institute for Applied Life Sciences Conference Center and via Zoom. Registration is available here.
