Five DEFA Film Library Films Streaming Through International Network of Goethe Institutes

The DEFA Film Library licensed five film productions to the streaming platform Goethe on Demand. This platform is hosted by the Central Office of the Goethe-Institutes in Munich and serves over 160 institutes worldwide.
The film selection includes the East German classics “The Legend of Paula and Paul” (dir. Heiner Carow) and “Solo Sunny” (dir. Konrad Wolf); the first complete Richard Wagner opera ever made on film, “The Flying Dutchman,” directed by internationally known Joachim Herz; and “Midnight Revue” (dir. Gottfried Kolditz), a film revue inspired by jazz and blues.
These genre films will complement Goethe’s virtual 12-month retrospective, “Genre Cinema from Germany,” for which they also licensed DEFA’s science fiction story “Eolomea” (dir. Herrmann Zschoche) as the featured film for the month of March.
“We are so excited to see our films streamed all over the world. We can’t thank the Goethe-Institutes enough for including our films in their programming,” says Hiltrud Schulz, DEFA Film Library’s production and outreach manager.
