Brian Breed

Brian W.  Breed has degrees in Classics from Emory University (BA, 1994) and Harvard (PhD, 1999). He has taught at UMass since 2000. His research is focused on Latin poetry of the late Republican and Augustan periods, especially the work of Virgil, Catullus, Horace, and Propertius, with attention to issues related to genre, textuality, and the relationships between texts and their audiences, as well as to the complex of concerns that cluster around Latin literary responses to Hellenistic Greek literature. He is also interested in the earliest Roman literature.
