Mandatory Graduate Student Health Fee
The Health Fee is not insurance. This fee must be paid by graduate students who are enrolled for 5 credits or more and by any student who signs up for the Student Health Benefit Plan. The fee supports an array of programs including health education and promotion services, four (4) initial visits for mental health crisis management, and public health services.
Mandatory Health Insurance
Massachusetts requires all students to have comprehensive health insurance. UMass Amherst offers excellent options and discounts for those students with qualifying assistantships. For more information on the costs of the individual and family Student Health Benefit Plan (SBHP), or how to opt for alternate health insurance see the UHS website.
