Landscape Architecture
Integrate a passion for visual arts and a love for the beauty of the natural world through the study of landscape architecture. Landscape architects design spaces that respond to human activity in its environmental context. At UMass Amherst, the landscape architecture program emphasizes landscape stewardship and seeks to create sustainable patterns of development that mitigate environmental impacts while maximizing benefits to individuals and society. Career opportunities for landscape architects have increased as the public becomes more concerned with the environmental impact of the built environment. Graduates of the program are employed in large, multidisciplinary firms, small sole-proprietor design offices, design/build companies, and government agencies. They work with land trusts and environmental organizations, historic preservation, coastal facilities, regional planning offices, urban design, and park and recreational design.
