Robert Pollin, Distinguished University Professor of Economics and co-director of the Political Economy Research Institute (PERI), discussed new PERI research findings released in a working paper called "Fossil Fuel Industry Phase-Out and Just Transitions" with Lynn Fries on GPEnewsdocs.com. The paper argues that just transition policies are a realistic prospect for all high-income countries and are a key part of a successful global climate stabilization program. "We have to show that if we're going to phase out fossil fuels to save the planet, which we have to, we also have to mount a vigorous, robust just transition for the workers and communities whose jobs are going to get phased out," says Pollin.
