Julie Hemment Publishes Article on Humor and Geopolitical Performance

Julie Hemment, anthropology, has published a new article, “Satirical strikes and deadpanning diplomats: Stiob as geopolitical performance in Russia–US relations” in PoLAR: Political and Legal Anthropology Review. Hemment describes how humor became a "political technology" between 2012 and 2020, and asks, "What happens when humor, often approached in interdisciplinary studies as a weapon of the weak, is coopted in the interests of power?"
