In the Certificate in Latin America, Caribbean, and Latino Studies, you’ll develop a concentration in the history and culture of these areas to supplement your regular degree program.

Depending on your personal interests and professional goals, you can choose from one of two tracks. You may build your skills in language proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese, or you may focus on complementary areas of study such as women studies, geography, history, sociology, communication, and more.

This six-course certificate is awarded at the time of graduation alongside a bachelor’s degree from UMass Amherst.

For students who would like to pursue the interdisciplinary study without the language requirement, the department also offers an undergraduate minor in Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino Studies.
