About
Marissa Carrere is a Lecturer for the Department of Political Science, where she teaches Junior Year Writing for Political Science and Legal Studies majors, as well as law and literature courses. Her writing courses support students in their development as practitioners of careful critical thinking, effective rhetoric, and responsible participation in public discourse.
Marissa has taught writing, public policy, and humanities courses in access and community-based education settings, working with diverse student populations including adult distance learners and women whose educations have been interrupted by parenting and poverty, at University Without Walls and Bard Microcollege Holyoke, respectively. These experiences inform her interest in pedagogies and policies that promote equitable, inclusive educational opportunities.
Her research and publications focus on childhood as a rhetorical and imaginative device for political thought, children’s agency as political subjects, and public schools as essential and contested centers of democratic life.
