About
I am an archaeologist of the recent past who combines archaeological and environmental methods to study the long term social and ecological effects of industrialization and industrial waste. More broadly, I am interested in mobilizing the methods of archaeology to study contemporary social issues, from environmental degradation, to migration, to settler colonialism.
My current project looks at the history of early (19th and early 20th century) industrial mining along the US/Mexico border: the forms of colonization and migration this mining engendered, the communities that were exposed to its toxic effects, and the devastated landscapes this history has left behind.
