Students communicate directly with community sites to arrange to do internships with them. You do not need to meet with an advisor before applying for an internship, but you are of course welcome to do so (see here for how to meet with an advisor). Here are some tips for how to find an internship:
- Our List of Internship Possibilities is a good starting point for identifying potential internship sites.
- Some sites on this list have a formal application process, while other sites require reaching out to a contact person over email/phone to inquire about internship opportunities. When contacting sites, you should have a resume or CV ready, and you should expect that most sites will request an interview. You should treat these initial interactions the same way you would approach a prospective job.
- Handshake frequently has internship listings. Students can apply for these positions directly through Handshake.
- The CNS Career Center has several resources for searching for internships.
- There are Career Fairs every semester that students can register for through Handshake, including a Psychology Career Fair each semester.
- CNS keeps a database of internships that CNS students have submitted information about.
- If you are interested in working with individuals with developmental disabilities, you can apply for the DDHS program.
- If you are interested in doing a civic engagement-related internship alongside coursework, you can look into a Civic Engagement & Service-Learning program.
- If you are interested in doing an internship at a site that is not listed above, you can absolutely do so! Contact an advisor if you have questions.
