UMass Police Department

The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) maintains an access portal which allows for comment and feedback with regard to candidate agencies seeking initial accreditation or reaccreditation status. The link for this portal can be found on the CALEA corporate website (www.calea.org) and below.  The UMPD will be receiving it's 3rd CALEA annual assessment of a 4-year cycle in early fall of 2026.  As part of this assessment, UPMD would like to remind the public of the CALEA Public Comment Portal that is available on the CALEA website.

How to contact us

UMPD Patch New

In an emergency:

In an emergency call (413) 545-3111 from your cell or through Microsoft Teams. You will be connected directly to the UMass Police emergency line. On campus, you may use one of the yellow Campus Help Phones. The campus help phones auto-connect to UMass Police.

The best practice for on-campus emergencies is to use your cell phone. If you must use Teams, call (413) 545-3111 directly.  If you call 911 via TEAMS, you will still get a public safety dispatcher, but be ready to give your exact location.  A call from TEAMS to 911 may be problematic with determining your location.

For non-emergencies:

For non-emergencies, call us at (413) 545-2121. Leave a message on our confidential Tips Line (413) 577-TIPS (8477).
