Graduate Assistantship and Fellowship Office Kuali Build Forms Launch

Beginning In Spring 2025, GAFO will roll out online forms through Kuali Build to streamline paying stipends, tuition, and fees for graduate students. Using Kuali Build, a cloud based platform, will provide:

  • Transparency - Notifications and updates are sent to administrators and students throughout the hiring process. This allows an easier tracking of the forms and more clarity on time-to-pay status.  
  • Automatic Prompts - Frequent email reminders are sent for approval signatures decreasing delays in processing. 
  • Access - Sharing of the cloud based forms is much easier than PDF sharing. 
  • Split-funding Options - Multiple funding sources for one appointment can now be processed easily. 

Within each section below, click on the name of the form to be brought to the Kuali Build form submission site. A short instructional video and a detailed user guide is provided for each form. You may be prompted to sign into your umass google account in order to view the video. Click on the play button at the bottom of the video, sign in to google through the redirected youtube page, then return to this page to view.

The Graduate Assistantship and Fellowship Office will hold drop-in help sessions specifically addressing GAO Kuali Build Form issues each Friday from 10am-11am throughout the Spring 2025 semester here. 

 

Non-Working Fellowship Form

The Non-Working Fellowship (NWF) Form is replacing the old NWF pdf form. In Spring 2025 GAFO will accept both the old and new forms but encourages the use of the new Kuali-Build form. Beginning in Summer 2025, only the new form will be accepted. 

The Non-Working Fellowship Form is used to pay graduate students a stipend for non-work related funding. This form is to be used for supplemental monies to support Graduate students in the pursuit of their degree but should not be used to compensate students for employment.

This form is for U.S. Citizens and Resident Aliens only - Please use the Graduate Assistantship form (GFAF) to disburse non-working payments for international students with an F1 and J1 Visa.

Grant-In-Aid Form

The Grant-In-Aid Form is replacing the fee payment section on the old NWF pdf form. In Spring 2025 GAFO will accept both the old and new forms but encourages the use of the new Kuali-Build form. Beginning in Summer 2025, only the new form will be accepted. 

The Grant-In-Aid Form is used for payments of graduate student tuition and fees. Similar to the NWF form, this form should not be used to compensate students for employment and is to be used for supplemental monies to support Graduate students in the pursuit of their degree.
