Hispanic Literatures and Linguistics
Study the language, cultures, and literature of the Spanish speaking world. The Spanish program at UMass Amherst emphasizes competence in language and linguistics. Additional courses in culture and civilization allow students to explore their particular areas of interest, such as Latin American studies, international relations, or modern European studies. With study abroad opportunities across the Spanish speaking world, from Granada in Spain to Buenos Aires in Argentina, students of Spanish are encouraged to immerse themselves in the language and traditions of one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. With programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, students can leverage their Spanish studies in any career where bilingual skills are needed, or prepare for careers in teaching or academia.
