About UWW

A History of Degree Completion

The University of Massachusetts Amherst’s University Without Walls (UWW) was established in 1971 with the focused mission of providing degree completion for adult learners. Since then, our programs have expanded significantly, but our highly-regarded online bachelor's program remains central to our program portfolio.

An Interdisciplinary Vision

Today, UWW is an expanded academic unit that champions innovation in learning by supporting interdisciplinary, flexible, student-centric programs for all learners. Interdisciplinary work draws on knowledge from several academic disciplines. These degrees and programs allow students to personalize their exploration of knowledge and create versatility for students with diverse interests.
