University-Scheduled Classes
For degree-seeking University+ students and non-degree students (both undergraduate and graduate) enrolling in University-Scheduled classes.
Undergraduate and Graduate students in degree programs offered through the University+ session
Enroll in classes in SPIRE.
Non-Degree Undergraduate and Non-Degree Graduate students
Please note for Spring 2025 and future semesters, the Open Course List enrollment process is no longer in effect. Non-degree students can enroll in University-Scheduled classes by following the instructions below.
During the Fall and Spring semesters, all non-degree students will be able to enroll themselves into University-Scheduled courses (the on-campus offerings at UMass Amherst) one week before the start of the semester.
Non-degree students can search and register for University-Scheduled classes either through SPIRE or Schedule Builder (links lead to instructions for each). Enrollment into University-Scheduled courses is on a space-available basis and students must meet the prerequisites and/or eligibility requirements.
If non-degree students are unable to register themselves into a University-Scheduled class due to either a lack of prerequisites or they do not meet the eligibility requirements, they must contact the instructor or department offering the class for permission to enroll. Similarly, if a class is at full capacity and a non-degree student wants to seek permission to overenroll, they must contact either the instructor or the department.
Instructor contact information can be found on the UMass Amherst People Finder.
Department contact information is available on each department’s website – please use the A-Z index to find the department website that is offering the course.
Non-degree students with questions regarding this process should contact the University+ Session Records & Registration Office at (413) 545-3653 or @email.
