UMass Amherst Celebrates Community at the 36th Annual Springfield Puerto Rican Parade

UMass Amherst is delighted to continue growing our presence and strengthening our partnerships throughout Springfield and the surrounding communities.

As part of our commitment to expanding the land-grant mission and bringing more of UMass to the community and more of the community to UMass, we are proud to participate in the 36th Annual Springfield Puerto Rican Parade.

The parade is a powerful celebration of culture, heritage, community, and pride. It is an opportunity for us to come together, honor the rich contributions of the Puerto Rican community, and celebrate the connections that make Springfield such a vibrant and diverse community.

The Springfield Puerto Rican Parade is rooted in a mission to uplift and empower the community by celebrating Puerto Rican culture, challenging stereotypes, preserving heritage, providing a space for cultural expression, representing the island, and creating a lasting legacy for generations to come.

Its vision is to create a world where Puerto Rican heritage is recognized and celebrated for its unique contributions to society, while promoting cultural awareness, unity, and empowerment within the Puerto Rican community and beyond.

This year's theme especially resonates with us. "Como El Coqui" reflects the importance of community, cultural pride, connection, and the collective work we do to build a stronger and more inclusive Springfield.

This year, we are excited to have a greater UMass presence at the parade and invite our faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community partners to join us. Let's come together to celebrate the culture, traditions, history, and people who make our community so special and to demonstrate the strength of the partnership between UMass Amherst and the City of Springfield.

We look forward to marching together, representing UMass Amherst, and celebrating alongside our Springfield community.
