Administrative Oversight & Process
To request interim approval of a Center or Institute, apply by using this template. For more information, see the C&I Interim Approval Flowchart.
Interim approval is good for up to three years.
Note: It is strongly recommended that initial work on a center or institute proposal be done to develop a sustainable financial model prior to seeking interim approval.
To request full approval status of a center or institute, please first review the faculty senate policy guiding the establishment, review, and termination of centers and institutes. For more information, see the C&I Full Approval Flowchart.
Permanent status is reviewed every 5 years by a Review Committee appointed by the VCRE.
Centers and institutes are subject to campus review as established by Faculty Senate Policy. The Faculty Senate also oversees the process by which centers and institutes are created or closed. Centers and institutes subject to the campus review process are required to submit an annual report, as well as a self-study report once every five years. This self-study serves as the basis for the review, carried out by a faculty review committee. All centers and institutes need to be approved by the provost, chancellor, and university president. Guidelines for the self-study report and the evaluation criteria are provided below.
