The Office of Research Development (ORD) works with faculty and staff to creatively develop and secure new funding opportunities, increase competitiveness for sponsored research, engage with sponsors (federal and state), and support and enable faculty research leaders campus-wide. Activities fall into four main areas:
Research development strategy, planning, and large-scale proposal development is a collaborative effort with units across the campus. In addition to working with other Research and Engagement units (Office of Pre-Award Services, UMass Innovation Institute, and the Technology Transfer Office), the Office of Research Development works with many other groups to advance the campus research mission, including University Relations, Development and Alumni Relations, Corporate and Foundation Relations, University Analytics and Institutional Research (UAIR), the Office of Faculty Development (OFD), and academic units via associate deans for research, as well as Center and Institute directors.
The Office of Research Development (ORD) supports strategic research initiatives. Strategic initiatives catalyze growth of the campus research enterprise and foster state and regional economic development through networking, university-industry-government partnerships, coordinated communications, and stakeholder engagement.
Please note: All proposals for sponsored projects must be submitted through the Office of Pre-Award Services (OPAS). See OPAS staff contacts for program areas.
The Office of Research Development is located at 400 Venture Way, Suite 235, Hadley, MA 01035.
