Our PhD program in Microbiology is a rigorous, research-intensive doctoral program designed to advance scientific discovery and develop leaders in microbial science. A defining component of the degree is the completion of an original doctoral dissertation that generates publishable scholarship and contributes substantive new knowledge to the field. The program is structured to be completed in approximately five years, culminating in the preparation of graduates equipped to drive innovation across various professional and industry settings.
Our Program
All our PhD students are supported financially by research assistantships, teaching assistantships, and fellowships. One semester of teaching is required for graduation and provides students with valuable experience as an instructor at the collegiate level. Our PhD students develop organizational, speaking, and technical skills through teaching, coursework, and research conducted in laboratories.
Most of our PhD graduates during the past ten years have been awarded postdoctoral fellowships at leading academic institutions or hold senior research management positions in industry. In recent years, our PhD graduates have had multiple offers of postdoctoral fellowships prior to or shortly after graduation.
