Tamarin has been with IDEAS since April 2022, serving first as a Team Lead, then Acting Manager, and now the Associate Director. Tamarin has been a driving force behind the Canvas LMS initiative, and oversees the identification and implementation of new technologies and instructional design practices to enhance the academic learning environment.

Sharon kearney
Sharon Kearney is a Lecturer and the Faculty Development Team Lead within the IDEAS group at UMass Amherst. She holds a Ph.D. in Education and Technology from Trinity College Dublin; an M.A. in Teaching and Gender/Cultural Studies; and a B.A. in English and Spanish. Her professional interests and research areas include new literacies, digitally-enhanced pedagogies, social constructivism, communities of practice, and educator development.

His graduate work in Sociology focused on digital literacies and digital skill acquisition, with a lens toward equity. Xime is an Instructional Designer who graduated from the College of Education at UMass Amherst. She has a strong background in digital animation and video production. She loves bringing different approaches to the creation of educational content, such as interactive elements to enhance student experiences. She assisted students in the creation of digital stories for the 2022-2023 FLEXperience Project, serving as a technical co-lead, together with her colleague Ariel.

Ariel is an Instructional Designer who uses her immense appreciation for good communication to support the Instructional Media Lab and create external facing documentation for many of the tools supported by the IDEAS team. Using her background in audio and video, she assisted students in creating digital stories about their experiences at UMass for the 2022-2023 FLEXperience Project, where she and her colleague, Xime, served as the technical co-leads. Ariel is also the second generation of her Singaporean Chinese family to join the field of Instructional Design & Technology.

She oversees the daily operations of the Instructional Media Lab, which provides front-line support for the instructional technology used by instructors and teaching assistants. She is also passionate about learning new technologies and ways to use them to create more engaging and interactive learning experiences, and to make education more accessible to all students, regardless of their background or abilities.

Ryan Scott has been with the University of Massachusetts since the mid-1990's starting as a student and upon receiving his BA in Political Science joined the Continuing Education department as an LMS system administrator. Currently Ryan is the administrator for both the Blackboard and Canvas LMS'. His primary focus is on system setup and integrations. In his off time he serves as the official replay coordinator for the UMass Men's and Women's Basketball Teams as well as the UMass Hockey team.

Through five years as an Instructional Designer in the IDEAS team in varied roles, Fraser has partnered with faculty on early Flex and other high-quality course development initiatives, contributed to documentation standardization and streamlining projects, supported faculty with tech solutions, rapid online course adaptations, strengthening student engagement, and reinforcing student-centered course design. Recently, Fraser has explored game-based learning, the impact of A.I. in Education, and new frontiers in Music Education as additional areas of interest.

I'm Jia, and my journey at UMass was way back to 2017 when I first came to the United States from China as a graduate student. I got my first job as an Instructional Designer at UMass and I have enjoyed my work ever since. I hold a deep belief in the power of resource sharing. Sharing is caring, and knowledge is more meaningful when you share it with others. Beyond my 9-5, I enjoy making miniatures, building my dollhouse, working on my scrapbooks and contributing to my recipe website.

Yuhwa Hong (she/her/hers) is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in the Department of Teacher Education & Curriculum Studies (TECS) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, specializing in Math, Science, & Learning Technologies (MSLT). Her research encompasses a diverse range of interests, including the development of self-efficacy in mathematics, the cultivation of non-cognitive skills in mathematics, bilingual and multilingual mathematics education, the dynamics of mathematical discourse, and the enhancement of teacher preparation and competence. Her doctoral dissertation delves into the impact of bilingualism on young children's self-efficacy beliefs in mathematics through a sociocultural perspective. Beyond her academic pursuits, Yuhwa enjoys spending quality time with her family, engaging in board games, and taking leisurely walks.
