If you wish, share a memory or reflection on your experience as a finalist. 

Unfortunately, my 3MT experience was a bit different than most because it happened during the pandemic. As a result, our competition was held virtually via Zoom. Despite that, the process of preparing for the talk was a highlight of that year. It provided me with a sense of connection with colleagues whose own research and personal lives were similarly impacted by the pandemic.

If you wish, share a sentence or two about how the 3MT impacted your career trajectory. 

Preparing for the 3MT really boosted my confidence as a science communicator. I think sharing your personal research is often much harder than talking about someone else's, and the competition gave me an encouraging space to find out what was most essential for the public to know about my work.

Anything else you want to share about your 3MT experience? 

I'm so glad that we have the 3MT at UMass Amherst. It's about so much more than just memorizing an elevator pitch for your work.
