Meeting ADA Title II Requirements for Theses & Dissertations
Content
Beginning on April 26, 2027, all digital resources are required to meet standards for accessibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA Title II). For example, all documents must be accessible with screen readers. Graduate students are responsible for submitting their theses and dissertations in an accessible format.
Looking for tips to get started? Dena Novak, the Associate Provost for Instructional Excellence, recommends the following resources:
- Start with the resources on the IDEAS Accessibility Hub to make documents accessible. In particular, the Digital Accessibility Starter Kit and the AccessibleU self-paced course are good starting places.
- For individual support, go to the Assistive Technology Center ( ATC/DAC ). That office also has a great resource that goes over the tools available for finding and fixing issues while creating documents.
Even if you plan to submit your work prior to the April 26 deadline, we encourage you to ensure that it is accessible.
