Grigory Hakimov, PhD candidate in Political Science, has been awarded a Dissertation Completion Grant from the National Council for Eurasian and East European Research (NCEEER). These awards recognize accomplished students whose research focuses on the countries of Eastern Europe and Eurasia on topics of relevance to current U.S. foreign policy.
Hakimov’s dissertation research examines election monitoring and contentious politics in contemporary authoritarian regimes and post-communist countries. He uses a case study of Russia to demonstrate how ideas of engaged citizenship emerge within restricted political contexts. Hakimov says the funding from NCEEER will allow him to concentrate on data analysis and writing during his final year.
Hakimov’s research has also been supported by the Graduate School through a Predissertation Research Grant.
