Philosophy
Fearlessly ask questions that cut to the core of the human experience. The study of philosophy is, at its core, the study of thought. Students must learn how to reason well, apply logic to any question, and critically and analytically evaluate concepts, problems, and methodologies. As such, the field of philosophy has wide application and may benefit any individual, no matter their ultimate career goals. At UMass Amherst, the Department of Philosophy has a long and distinguished history of producing cutting-edge scholars with widely applicable analytical skills. At the graduate level, the department produces leading academics working in the fields of metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, logic, and more.
