The astronomy department at UMass offers an opportunity to pursue a PhD in a wide range of theoretical and experimental topics in astrophysics. Students have access to a variety of internal research facilities and instrumentation programs. Many of our students also routinely incorporate projects utilizing highly competitive national and international facilities, such as the HST, Chandra, JVLA, and ALMA, for their research activities.
