Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art

In the three-year studio art MFA program, students who plan to pursue a career in art immerse themselves in a creative academic setting with opportunities for interaction and critique with professional artists and like-minded peers. In our supportive yet challenging community of makers and thinkers, we engage in art practice as an essential human endeavor, questioning and exploring what it means to be an artist and how to be one in our world.

Because the MFA program is interdisciplinary, you would not be admitted into, nor expected to work within one particular discipline. This opportunity to explore creative expression broadly reflects the current art world and is a highlight of our curriculum.

Admission to the MFA program is highly competitive as we only accept approximately six students per year. All accepted students are awarded teaching assistantships, they have 24-hour access to their studios, equipment, and facilities, and they can take advantage of the resources at all of the Five Colleges. Additionally, the program also offers a comprehensive overview of teaching art in higher education settings, an introduction to critical pedagogy, and solid teaching experience.
