SAB Metalshop

The Metalshop is optimized for general metal fabrication using ferrous and some non-ferrous metals to create mid-sized projects. There is a welding area with MIG, TIG, and plasma cutter, a fabrication area with cutting and bending tools, and a small machine shop with a mill and lathe. Students use the Metalshop both to create sculptural work but also to build or alter fixtures for mounting or holding creative projects.

The Metalshop technician conducts equipment safety training for any student in the art department who would like to use the shop for their projects. Simply contact the technician (email below) to schedule a training session.

Access and hours

The Metalshop is open during the hours shown below but is restricted whenever there is a class in session in the shop. Please contact the technician to verify the schedule.

All students wishing to use the Metalshop must complete general safety training before accessing the shop. Undergraduate students may use the shop whenever it is open and available. Graduate students may use the shop after hours with a “buddy.”
