Join us for an engaging conversation about life, work, and the lasting impact of Judith Ortiz Cofer.

Rafael Ocasio will discuss his new critical anthology, Peach Pit Corazon: A Judith Ortiz Cofer (University of Georgia Press, 2025). which celebrates the life, work, and enduring legacy of the acclaimed Puerto Rican writer.

Judith Ortiz Cofer, originally from Hormigueros, Puerto Rico, moved with her family to Paterson, New Jersey, at the age of two, where she grew up until her teens, which she completed in Augusta, Georgia.

Considered a co-founder of Latin literature, Ortiz Cofer's major achievement includes a Pulitzer Prize nomination for her novel The Line of the Sun (1989), marking the first time a Latina writer was nominated for this prestigious honor.
