New Incoming Students (Freshman and Transfer entering first-ever semester at UMass Amherst)
Please review the deferral policy on the Undergraduate Admissions website for more information about deferring your admit term to a future term. New incoming students who are not approved for or not eligible for a deferral must follow the withdrawal instructions below.
If you are unable to attend UMass Amherst for the admitted entering term on your offer of admission, you must withdraw from the university. Please notify the University Registrar’s Office at @email before the second day of classes of the upcoming semester to finalize your withdrawal. Withdrawal requests from new incoming students will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to determine re-enrollment eligibility.
Retroactive Withdrawals
Students may seek retroactive withdrawals from semesters if they experienced extenuating circumstances that impacted their ability to be successful. Retroactive withdrawals will only be processed if they have been approved by either University Health Services or the Admissions and Records Committee (CAR).
If you are seeking a retroactive withdrawal due to medical reasons, please contact University Health Services at [email protected] or call 413-577-5271.
For all other retroactive withdrawals, please contact the Academic Dean’s Office of your primary major.
