Information for Fellows
The overall objective of the Office of Inclusion and Engagement (OIE) is to cultivate an inclusive environment through which REAL and Spaulding-Smith fellows (graduate students) from all backgrounds can thrive and succeed at UMass Amherst. OIE works to promote student success through recruitment efforts, graduate fellowships, mentoring, and community-building programming.
In addition to the financial support, REAL and Spaulding-Smith fellows can apply for supplementary travel funds ($600) per academic year to support their academic training and apply for the Well Being fund. The Well Being Fund is designed to ensure that out-of-network insurance cost is not a limitation for fellows accessing well-being support. It also recognizes that students from historically underrepresented populations often require care that is not always available on a college campus. The requested amount can range between $30 - $300 per academic year.
OIE also hosts a variety of community-building events for fellows throughout the year. Fellows are encouraged to attend community-building events to help us build our community and help each other.
