Since 1979, the Gentzler Translation Center has been providing multilingual services to clients and partners locally and beyond. We work with translators, interpreters, and other language professionals at the University, in the region, and from all over the world. Our experienced project managers oversee assignments and supervise university student assistants. Proceeds support educational and outreach initiatives to bring awareness to issues of language related to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility.

Student Engagement

The Gentzler Translation Center provides employment opportunities for students. They work closely with the Center's project managers on specific assignments and occasionally participate in the translation process as translators or reviewers. They also work with the Director on special projects and provide administrative support. Thanks to their time with us, students gain valuable professional experience and develop a deep awareness of responsible language use.

Scholarship

The Gentzler Translation Center is part of a dynamic community. At the University of Massachusetts Amherst and the nearby colleges, many faculty either translate themselves or publish about translation phenomena. The same faculty usually offer undergraduate and graduate courses on translation. The Translation Center is proud to sponsor translation- and language-related activities at UMASS and the Colleges!

2024 Workshops for School Interpreters and Translators

Since Fall 2018, the Gentzler Translation Center has provided workshops for almost 800 public school staff members on the foundational skills of interpreting and translation. These educational opportunities are for districts, schools, and individuals. Read about our work with the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
