About Us
Since 1979, the Gentzler Translation Center has been providing language services and educational opportunities. We offer translation, interpretation, workshops, consultation services, and more from a rigorous academic setting that is connected to scholarship, professional organizations, and an international community. We work with translators, interpreters, and other language professionals at the University, in the region, and from all over the world to provide solutions that serve the needs of our clients and partners locally and beyond. We provide students with professional experience. Proceeds support educational and outreach initiatives committed to bringing awareness to issues of language and translation in society.
Working with Schools
The Gentzler Translation Center is an approved provider of DESE Tier 2 and Tier 3 courses for “Interpreters in the Education Setting.” Additionally, the GTC has steadily collaborated with school districts and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education through a range of educational programs on language services and related supports to improve multilingual communication. We welcome conversations with school districts to address their specific needs beyond these opportunities. As part of UMass Amherst, the GTC is committed to engaging with schools to create collective and meaningful impact. Check out the 2025 - 2026 programming for schools for a sampling of our offerings.
Engaging Students
The Gentzler Translation Center provides employment opportunities for students. They work closely with the GTC project managers on specific assignments and occasionally participate in the translation process as translators or reviewers. They also work on special projects and provide administrative support. Thanks to their time with us, students gain valuable professional experience and develop an awareness of responsible language use.
Resources
The Translation Center has created several resources to assist the community with translation and interpreting. Check them out here!
