Since 1979, the Gentzler Translation Center has been providing multilingual services to clients and partners locally and beyond. We work with translators, interpreters, and other language professionals at the University, in the region, and from all over the world. Our experienced project managers oversee assignments and supervise university student assistants. Proceeds support educational and outreach initiatives to bring awareness to issues of language related to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility.
Student Engagement
The Gentzler Translation Center provides employment opportunities for students. They work closely with the Center's project managers on specific assignments and occasionally participate in the translation process as translators or reviewers. They also work with the Director on special projects and provide administrative support. Thanks to their time with us, students gain valuable professional experience and develop a deep awareness of responsible language use.
Scholarship
The Gentzler Translation Center is part of a dynamic community. At the University of Massachusetts Amherst and the nearby colleges, many faculty either translate themselves or publish about translation phenomena. The same faculty usually offer undergraduate and graduate courses on translation. The Gentzler Translation Center is proud to sponsor translation- and language-related activities at UMASS and the Colleges!
Working with Schools
Since 1979 the Gentzler Translation Center (GTC) has been providing language services and educational opportunities to partners and clients in Massachusetts and beyond. Since 2018, the GTC has steadily collaborated with school districts and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education through a range of training programs on language access services and supports to improve multilingual communication. Check out the 2025 - 2026 programming for schools. The GTC also welcomes conversations with school districts to address their specific needs beyond these opportunities.
