ISSR Methodology Workshop | The Basics of Power Analysis (Online)
Instructor: Quinnehtukqut McLamore
One of the most common design flaws across all walks of scientific research is insufficient statistical “Power.” Power refers to the likelihood that a researcher can correctly reject the null hypothesis. In plain English, Power is how likely you are to actually DETECT the effects you want to see in your research. It also shapes how much confidence you can put in the results that you find and present!
In this two-hour workshop, we will introduce the concept of Power, different types of power analysis, and how to write up and present the results of power analyses. We will also learn how to use G*Power, a free program that you can use on your computer to conduct power analysis for various types of study designs.
This workshop is primarily intended for people who have little to no prior experience with G*Power.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Understand the concept of statistical power
- Conduct different types of power analyses in G*Power
- Write up the results of different types of Power Analyses
