"SPP was the perfect prep for my role at MMA. In addition to subject matter knowledge like economics, environmental policy, and other topics I chose to dive into, almost everything I do from day to day I practiced at SPP: policy analysis, research, survey design, memo writing, presentation skills, statistical analysis, etc, all are put to use in my role at MMA."

4+1 MPA Curriculum and Advising

The 4+1 Master of Public Policy (4+1 MPP) at the UMass Amherst School of Public Policy is a 1-year, 37-credit program that includes seven core courses (including our policy seminar), a summer internship, and five electives, three of which must be SPP program electives. Our curriculum prepares students with the analytical tools and methodological frameworks needed for a variety of public service careers.

Our 4+1 MPP program is open to undergraduates at UMass Amherst and the other Five Colleges (Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and Smith colleges). 4+1 MPP students begin taking graduate courses during their final undergraduate year. The 4+1 MPP program allows students to double-count 12 credits taken during their undergraduate year that can be applied to the MPP.
