Please join the “In These Times: Documenting Stories Through Our Own Lenses” community conversation and workshop series for a dynamic one-day introduction to using oral history as an approach to documenting the past.

Oral history is a term used to describe recorded interviews with first hand witnesses to past events. Typically conducted by an informed interviewer, oral history can produce a number of different outcomes useful for public history, museums, research, family and community histories, and more. Over the course of the workshop, faculty will define oral history, describe several different approaches to oral history interviewing, and lead hands-on exercises supporting participants in learning how to plan interviews and elicit dynamic stories during these conversations.

Come learn valuable oral history skills with other members of the community and trained oral historians from the UMass Amherst Public History Program and History Department! See profiles below.
