Terrie Black ’15 DNP, MBA, CRRN, FAHA, FAAN, is a certified rehabilitation registered nurse and a fellow of the American Heart Association and the American Academy of Nursing. She was a nurse reviewer with The Joint Commission’s Disease‑Specific Care Certification division.
Dr. Black is a past president of the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses and a past chair of its Health Policy Committee. She received the Distinguished Service Award and the President’s Award from ARN for her contributions and leadership, as well as the Editor’s Choice Award from Rehabilitation Nursing.
She is a past chair of the Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing (CVSN) Council and of the Go Red for Women in Science and Medicine Committee of the American Heart Association. In 2023 she received the Outstanding Leadership Award from the AHA.
Dr. Black has served as a UMass STRIDE fellow and an ADVANCE fellow and on the UMass advisory board for the Office of Faculty Development. She received the college Outstanding Teaching Award in 2022 and has been nominated twice for the campus‑wide Distinguished Teaching Award.
Dr. Black has served on numerous national technical expert panels, reviewed for PCORI, and served as a subject‑matter expert for the National Quality Forum and the Partnership for Quality Measurement. She is a frequent invited speaker at national and international conferences and has numerous publications and book chapters. She was the only nurse author on a landmark American Heart Association publication addressing “Life’s Essential 8.”
She is a passionate educator, leader, mentor, and change agent for students and faculty alike.
