Terrie Black ’15 DNP, MBA, CRRN, FAHA, FAAN, clinical associate professor in the Elaine Marieb College of Nursing, has been named a UMass ADVANCE faculty fellow for 2023–2024. She joins 48 other selected faculty members from across campus who will partner with UMass ADVANCE to promote gender and racial equity for faculty at UMass Amherst.
Black will provide recommendations and feedback to the ADVANCE team and liaise with the college to promote the program. Fellows also inform ADVANCE about successful equity and inclusion initiatives in their units.
UMass ADVANCE started in 2018 as a “collaborative quest” to make the university more welcoming to every faculty member, regardless of gender, race/ethnicity, or sexuality. Through a combination of research, programming, and practice, UMass ADVANCE seeks to understand systemic and intersectional inequalities at UMass Amherst and to lay the groundwork for a fairer, more equitable, diverse, and inclusive campus.
Each year ADVANCE announces a theme related to its focus on collaboration and equity. This year’s theme is “Equitable Faculty Evaluation Practices.”
