Online Master of Science Public Health Nursing Concentration
Apply clinical nursing expertise and population health skills in public and community health settings
The Master of Science in Public Health Nursing (MS-PHN) program prepares students for leadership position as public health nurses in community health organizations, public health departments, visiting nurse, home care and Federal agencies. Students learn to monitor and study health trends, identify health risk factors, develop public health and community health programs, and educate patients and communities about health topics that can improve health and save lives, with particular emphasis on underserved and marginalized populations.

This course provides in-depth theoretical knowledge on concepts and principles of epidemiology and its application in health promotion and disease prevention.
A supervised practicum in which students apply evidence-based knowledge to demonstrate advanced practice public health nursing interventions with a defined population.
Using group discussion, research, and community-based assignments, students will gain knowledge regarding the historical dimensions leading to health disparities, social injustice, and concepts of marginalization, poverty, race, class, and gender.
