Assessment, Survey, and Effectiveness Research (ASER)
ASER (formerly the Office of Academic Planning & Assessment/OAPA) leads institutional- and program-level assessment of student learning to support goals for educational effectiveness, strategic planning, and accreditation compliance. The team also leads and oversees an extensive array of institutional survey research activities, and conducts needs assessments and effectiveness research. ASER gathers and analyzes high-quality quantitative and qualitative data to support educational effectiveness and student success, and a wide range of other university priorities.
Results for ASER research projects, including reports and interactive dashboards, are available on or through this website, as well as through Flagship Analytics. In tandem with its companion office, University Analytics and Institutional Research (UAIR), ASER supports a culture of equity-focused, data-informed decision making throughout the university.
ASER provides academic departments and programs with consultation support in these areas:
- Exploring and articulating student learning outcomes appropriate to a course or program.
- Finding useful ways of assessing student success in achieving program goals.
- Developing strategies for ongoing reviews of program effectiveness for quality improvement, accreditation, and other purposes.
- Developing evaluation plans for new programs and initiatives at the university, college/school, and department levels.
