Julie Skogsbergh
I am interested in research on and about teaching student-centered learning. I also have a strong commitment to community-engaged research focused on the intersections of race, gender, and health within the Black and Latinx urban communities in Springfield and Holyoke, MA.
About
I worked for a few years in the medical insurance industry as a bilingual customer service representative before deciding to go back to school.
While pursuing my Master’s degree and facilitating diversity training, I discovered a love for teaching, mentoring, and qualitative ethnographic research, and set a new goal—to become a professor. I moved to Western Massachusetts for my doctoral studies at UMass Amherst.
As a UWW faculty member, I have the privilege of teaching and advising students like I was—nontraditional, adults, first-generation. My priority first and foremost is always to provide the fullest level of support, and to meet each student where they are in their learning journey.
Teaching Interests
My teaching interests are interdisciplinary and have a common thread in relation to the themes of social justice and intersectionality. I have taught in a variety of departments and disciplines: African American Studies, Anthropology, Ethnic Studies, Latino Studies, and Women's Studies.
Personal Interests
I enjoy the outdoors, reading, Latin music (favorite artist: Marc Anthony), cooking and baking, and the Green Bay Packers.
